MPb Minimate Contest Entry
June 11, 2009

A few months after the heralded Marvel Minimates arrived on retail shelves, the website Millionaire Playboy announced a Minimate Contest. You could enter pretty much anything as long as it was Minimate related. Given my "experience" I decided to enter a figuretoon. A big figuretoon.

It ended up being ninteen different photos split up into seven panels. Even by today's standards those images are pretty big. Click the link to see the whole thing.

 First Custom
June 8, 2009

I'm dropping the "Distant Past" descriptor from here on out. All this stuff is still six years old but typing all that useless text is getting tiring. Besides, this post is different from its predecessors so it's a good cut off point. So, what makes this entry so different?

It's a custom. (Although you might have gathered that from the title.) Yep my first Minimate custom, one of the security guards from the movie Spaceballs to be precise. I wasn't one for permanently altering my 'mates so read on to find out the recipe.

Distant Past Vol. 5 - More Single Shots
June 4, 2009

Time went on. Marvel Minimates had been announced, but hadn't shown up in stores. I finally found a more interesting background for the Minimate pictures.

And I started using other toys than the little Innerspace guys. I can't believe that all the toys littering my house all stemmed from that first batch of three inch Star Trek Minimates.

Distant Past Vol. 4 - Spaceballs Rip Off
June 1, 2009

Continuing with the multi-panel toons and Innerspace figures. Our good captain gets a little too wrapped up in his own world.

From here on out, the thumbnail images won't be as repetitive as the last few posts.

 Distant Past Vol. 3 - First Multi-Panel
May 28, 2009

My first venture into multi-panel toons. It was originally titled 'Playtime on the Enterprise'.

Say what you will, I still find this one amusing. The timing is off a bit, but it still makes me smile.

Distant Past Vol. 2 - More Trek & Spacemegs
May 25, 2009

The posts continue with more questionable humor and photography. As a side note, all of these early photos were taken with film. I did have a digital camera at the time, but I wasn't able to do what I wanted with it. There were some interesting conversations when I would pick up the prints.

Check out the full post for a rambling discourse on publishing my first website on 'spacemegs'.

Distant Past Vol. 1 - First Encounters
May 24, 2009

I hate to lead with such C-Grade material but I have this compulsion (some call it a sickness) to do things in a chronological order. So we start with how I got into Minimates and some attempts at humor using the original Star Trek three-inchers.

 Welcome
May 24, 2009

Greetings. Welcome to my own little self-indulgent corner of the Internet. ("Internet" is still capitalized these days right?) This is the obligatory introductory post filled with useless information most people don't care about.

This is my attempt to centralize all of my Minimate projects and share them with the world. Previously they've been scattered over various providers, photobucket accounts and message boards. No longer. Now I won't have to hunt through old hard drives to find some long forgotten image.

Until a couple weeks ago, this site was going to be named Minimate Arts. I had the domain registered, the images created, the database set up... but for whatever reason "Arts" never sounded quite right. Thankfully one night Richard Feynman appeared to me in a dream and said, "Fie foolish mortal! You are not fit to sweep my laboratory. Get thee gone from here, and take Salvador Dali with you."

...and the new name was born.
